The Kia Sorento has been "coming to India" for what feels like forever now. Every few months some new spy shot or report pops up with a completely different price and launch date — one site says ₹25 lakh, another says ₹45-50 lakh, one says November 2026, another says early 2027.
Basically nobody actually knows anything concrete yet, but let's talk about it anyway because it's genuinely one of the more interesting SUVs Kia could bring here.
the Sorento is Kia's proper three-row family SUV that's been a solid seller globally for years. It sits above the Seltos but stays away from the full ladder-frame, off-roader territory that the Fortuner and Gloster live in.
The hybrid angle is what's got me interested
If Kia does bring the Sorento as a hybrid — which most of the recent reports are pointing to — it'll be Kia's first proper hybrid for the Indian market. That's a big deal.
Right now, if you want a hybrid three-row SUV in India, your options are basically:
Innova Hycross
and not much else at this price bracket
A Sorento Hybrid with something like 227 hp and a proper AWD option would genuinely have no direct rival doing the same thing.
But here's where I get cautious
Kia India's pricing strategy has been all over the place lately. The Seltos and Carens are priced to move volume, but something like the Sorento coming in at ₹40-45 lakh puts it dangerously close to:
Skoda Kodiaq
Volkswagen Tayron
Kia's going to have to work hard to convince that buyer to switch, especially since brand perception still matters a lot at that price point in India.
Then there's the Fortuner problem. Say what you want about it being old-school and ladder-frame, but it has this near-cult reliability reputation Toyota's spent two decades building.
My honest take
the Sorento could be a genuinely excellent product on paper — spacious, tech-loaded, comfortable, maybe even class-leading in some areas. But whether it actually sells well in India depends less on the car itself and more on whether Kia prices it smartly.
