Maruti finally woke up, Brezza gets a turbo

Okay so this has been a long time coming and honestly I'm a little annoyed it took this long.

The Brezza has been sitting there with that same naturally aspirated 1.5 for years while basically everyone else in the segment moved to turbo-petrols. Nexon, Venue, half the Hyundai-Kia lineup turbo, And Maruti just... didn't bother. I guess when you're selling as many units as the Brezza does, why fix what isn't broken, right? Except it was a little broken. Anyone who's driven one in city traffic knows that engine runs out of breath fast.

So now we're finally getting the 1.0-litre Boosterjet, the same turbo unit from the Fronx. 100hp, 148Nm. Not massive numbers on paper but it's going to transform how this car actually feels to drive day to day. That's the real headline here, not the styling.

Speaking of styling new bumpers, new alloys, a bigger 10.1-inch screen. Fine. It's a facelift, nobody's expecting a redesign. Nothing here is going to shock you and honestly nothing here needed to.

What I actually care about is the CNG setup. They've apparently moved the tank underbody, like on the Victoris, so you're not losing your entire boot to a giant cylinder anymore. If you've ever tried to fit luggage in a CNG car's boot you know exactly why this matters more than any spec sheet number.

Will this be enough to keep the Brezza at the top of the sales charts? Almost certainly yes, because Maruti's resale value and service network basically guarantee that regardless of what engine's under the hood. But at least now buyers get a genuinely better car for their money, not just a badge they trust.

July 23 is launch day. Pricing will tell the real story, but on paper Maruti's playing catch-up here and finally landing the punch they should've thrown years ago.
